Recently Spun

Yeah, so I’ve been doing a lot of spinning recently. It’s been difficult to get any knitting in (although I did spend all last night knitting up Soleil). Since I’m waiting for the electric bobbin spinner and my bobbins, I’ve been plying everything with the centre-pull ball technique. Here are the gratuitous spun yarn shots:

State of the handspun

So the question is, what to make with all this handspun? I don’t wear hats and I don’t need anymore scarves. I’ve been thinking about the Glampyre’s new shrug pattern, but will I really wear a multi-coloured wool shrug? In public? Funny thing is with spinning, I feel like the yarn is the final product. I’m done!

Nevermind eBay! If you decide not to keep it, can I have dibs? :) Name your price, and if it’s affordable, I’ll gladly take it off your hands. :)

I agree–let it sit around in baskets and gaze at it. And keep posting pictures so we can gaze at it too. I always wonder what to do with my little skeins, too. Sometimes I tuck a skein into a gift package. Nowadays I try to dye and spin up enough yarn for a full garment. Or you could combine it with some black and do some kind of intarsia thing?

  • Madalyn

The yarn is just absolutely gorgeous. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with admiring them for a while before deciding what to do with them!

It’s beautiful enough to be a final prodcut. The colors in the pictures are great. You could use it as art and just have baskets of it around for inspirtation. Or get thee to eBay and make a profit.

I often feel like that about spinning, too. It’s probably why so many spinners do sell their yarn.

I tried to ply from a center-pull ball a couple weeks ago and it was an absolute disaster, but then I’m really still a novice spinner. Your yarn looks wonderful!

You know, I don’t know much about roving, spinning, or plying, but your pictures make me drool, drool, drool no matter what! What lovely colors, what wonderful photographs, and is it just me, or does it look soft through the computer monitor?!?

I love your colors! If you like baskets, you could try using some to make one of those coiled rope baskets they had in one of the latest Spin-Off magazines. What lovely gifts those would make, too.

i vote for making the glampyre shrug. i am doing one right now (in plain old white) and it is so quick and easy that if you hate it, you can just rip it out and make something else! (but you’ll love it, don’t worry.) i say use the middle skein in the second photo – what great colors with a simple white cami and jeans!

Hi. I am a first time visitor to your knitting site and was wondering if you ever posted about your knitting books. It would be very interesting to see what kind of a library you have that concerns all things crafty.

You can feel free to send all the beautiful homespun you want straight to my house, and I will figure out SOMETHING to do with it. LOL. I think your yarn looks better and better every time you post pictures, and the colors! To die for.

Im a bit confused! When I’m done spinning I have each of my singles on a bobbin and then then I ply those two bobbins to a 3rd bobbin. From the bobbin I transfer the yarn to my niddy-noddy and then to the pot to set it. You have pics of your singles in a center-pull ball and then plyed on to a bobbin…please explain? Yes, Im reading over all your blogs on spinning today…wonderful advice…
